At Lindow Community Primary School, our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education, Relationships Education, RSE, and the promotion of British Values are fundamental parts of our wider curriculum and school culture. Our aim is to ensure that all children—including those with SEND and additional needs—develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for the next stage of their lives.

Our curriculum supports children to understand themselves, their relationships with others, and the wider world. Through age-appropriate teaching, pupils learn about kindness, respect, boundaries, healthy relationships, emotional well-being, physical health, safety, and personal responsibility. They develop the confidence to recognise when something is not right, know how to seek help, and make safe, informed choices.

Aligned with Statutory Guidance

We follow the updated DfE statutory guidance for Relationships Education, RSE, and Health Education. This guidance places a strong emphasis on:

• Prevention, safeguarding, and helping children recognise and respond to risks

• Fostering positive and respectful relationships and appropriate language

• Enhanced online safety and media literacy

• Full inclusion and meeting pupils' age, developmental, and individual needs

• Working in close partnership and transparency with parents and carers

Our Six Core Curriculum Areas

Our progressive PSHE and RSE programme is structured around six key themes:

1. My Healthy Self: Supporting physical and mental health, nutrition, hygiene, and positive lifestyle choices.

2. Connecting with Others: Developing healthy relationships, respect, effective communication, and personal boundaries.

3. The Online World: Understanding online safety, digital influence, managing screen time, and responsible online behavior.

4. Growing Up: Learning about physical and emotional changes, puberty, and developing personal independence (delivered alongside our science curriculum).

5. Staying Safe: Recognising risks (including keeping safe online and out in the community), understanding consent, and knowing how and when to seek help.

6. Citizenship: Exploring rights, responsibilities, diversity, community contribution, and financial well-being.

How We Teach PSHE & RSE

Learning takes place through weekly, whole-class lessons, alongside strong links across the wider curriculum and everyday school life.

• A Safe Environment: Sensitive topics are taught by familiar adults in a secure, supportive setting with careful consideration given to each child's individual needs and experiences.

• Discussion & Reflection: Lessons provide dedicated space for dialogue, reflection, and developing pupils' ability to articulate their thoughts and feelings respectfully.

• Pupil Voice: The programme encourages children to reflect on how their learning applies directly to their own lives and community.
