Year 6 - Miss Oakes
Welcome
Welcome!
Dear Parents & Carers of Year 6,
A very warm welcome to you all to our Year 6 page!
My name is Miss Oakes and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead and to making your final year of primary school a memorable one. This year, we will also have the privilege of working alongside both Mrs Porteous and Mrs Ormerod.
Year 6 I am sure will be a special year for you all, as it not only marks the final step in your primary education and time spent here at Lindow, but also as we help prepare you for your journey onwards and upwards as you transition to Year 7 and life at high school.
To view our plans for the current term, please click on the curriculum button below. Throughout the year, we have so many fantastic themes of learning and experiences planned all centered around inspirational texts and the stories too of inspirational people.
Our topics will include:
· Conflict & Resolution
· Endangered or Empowered
· Man vs. Giant
· Survival of the Fittest
· High Hopes & Daring Dreams
· Be the Change You Want to See in the World
For regular updates on our class learning, please see our Class DOJO page where information specific to Year 6 is shared, alongside our weekly homework. Our DOJO page is also a place of celebration as photos of the children’s learning are shared and work showcased from across the curriculum.
Year Six will be full of challenges, excitement and lots of opportunities right from the outset, which I know you will all work hard to succeed in, with the support of myself and Mrs Porteous, culminating with our end of year production and leavers’ assembly in the Summer term.
Being ambassadors for the Lindow attitude and continuing to champion our values of ‘Caring, Learning & Achieving’, the year Six children hold many different roles of responsibility and leadership, as the oldest children in the school. This will give everyone a chance to shine and contribute to the wider community around you. Each child will become a buddy to one of our Reception children and our Head Boy and Head Girl, supported by the four House Captains, alongside our school councillors, will support in leading the whole school in our charity endeavours and house competitions.
Sports is always a big part of Lindow life and we will also be calling upon our Sport’s Ambassadors to support the whole school in keeping their minds and bodies active throughout the year when leading competitions, running the ‘Holmes’ Cup, and Sport’s Day too.
Our aim is that these opportunities will help you all to leave us as caring, young individuals, and responsible citizens of Wilmslow, as confident and articulate learners, ready for the next stage of your education.
I have every confidence that all our Year Six children at Lindow will strive to showcase these values at all opportunities to be great role models within our community.
Best wishes to you all, Miss Oakes
